HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1991-101-R-91• _ 101-R-91 A RESOLUTION Authorizing the Submission of an Advisory Referendum Question on a State of Illinois Future Education Act WHEREAS, the City of Evanston has been asked by the Treasurer of the State of Illinois to consider the submission of an advisory referendum question, as hereinafter specifically set forth, on the question of the establishment of a State of Illinois Future Education Act, to help Illinois parents save for their children's college educations; said question to be submitted to the voters of the City of Evanston at the election scheduled for March 17, 1992; and WHEREAS, the results of such local referendum will • constitute the opinion of the residents to the City of Evanston regarding the Future Education Account Act; and WHEREAS, it is deemed by the Council of Evanston to be in the public interest to survey the opinion of the voters by submitting such question to the voters at the March 17, 1992 election; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: It is the determination of the Council of. - the City of Evanston that the following question of public policy shall be submitted to the voters of the City of Evanston as an advisory referendum at the election scheduled for March 17, 1992, ..,9r to wit . 101 R-91 •., Should the State of Illinois establish a college savings program which would allow families to make set monthly payments into a Future Education Account that would guarantee their children's future college tuition at an Illinois public university? SECTION 2: Said referendum shall be conducted, in all respects, in accordance with the provisions of the Illinois Election Code pertain to the conduct of the March 17, 1992 election, and with the Ordinance providing for the pertinent publications, ballots, polling places and election judges relating to such election.
