A RESOLUTION
Canvassing the Results of the General Election
held on November 6, 1990, and Declaring the
• Results of the Advisory Referendum
WHEREAS, on the Sixth day of November, 1990, a
general election was held in and for the City of Evanston, Cook County, Illinois, for
the purpose of conducting an Advisory Referendum to determine if the electors of the
City of Evanston should ask the Congress of the United States to reduce the military
budget by $30 billion a year for each of the next five years and use the 'Peace
Dividend' to provide better health care, improved education programs, low-cost housing,
environmental protection programs, increased employment and better public transportation
facilities; and
WHEREAS, said general election was regularly called in the
manner provided by law: and
WHEREAS, the official Canvassing Board consisting of the
Mayor, the City Clerk and the City Attorney for the City of Evanston, find from the
returns of said general election that the following votes were cast for the advisory
referendum indicated:

The undersigned,
having been duly notified
by City Clerk Kirsten F.
Davis,
to canvass
the vote in the General
Election
held on November
6,
1990, for
the
purpose of conducting an
advisory
referendum to determine
if the
electors
of the City of Evanston
should
ask the Congress of
the
United
States
to reduce the military budget
by
$30 billion a year for
each of
the next
five years and use the
'Peace
Dividend' to provide
better
health
care, improved education
programs,
low-cost housing,
environmental
protection programs, increased
employment and better
public
transportation
facilities, reports that
it has
canvassed the vote with
respect to said
referendum and reports

The Canvassing Board, therefore, finds that the advisory referendum to
determine whether the electors of the City of Evanston ask the Congress of the United
States to reduce the military budget by $30 billion a year for each of the next five
years and use the 'Peace Dividend' to provide better health care, improved education
programs, low-cost housing, environmental protection programs, increased employment, and
better public transportation facilities, passed.
The Canvassing Board submits the foregoing report as a complete return
and canvass of the results of the votes cast in the General Election on November 6,
1990, on the advisory referendum.

SECTION 1: That by reason of said vote, the City Council declares
that the advisory referendum to determine if the Electors of the City of Evanston ask
the Congress of the United States to reduce the military budget by $30 billion a year
for each of the next five years and use the 'Peace Dividend' to provide better health
care, improved education programs, low-cost housing, environmental protection programs,
increased employment, and better public transportation facilities passed.
SECTION 2: That this Resolution is hereby made a permanent part of
0a records of the City Council of the City of Evanston, Cook County, Illinois.
