HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1985-037-R-85i- 5/1/85 37-R-85 A RESOLUTION Dedication of the Mainstream System Tunnel and • I Reservoir Plan May 24, 1985 • • I WHEREAS, it is imperative to the health and well being of the public to protect Lake Michigan against pollution; and WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the community to restore clean water to the streams and rivers of our area; and WHEREAS, protection from the damages and hardships of flooding must be obtained; and WHEREAS, the Tunnel and Reservoir Plan has been formulated to protect Lake Michigan, clean up the inland waterways, and provide an outlet for floodwaters; and WHEREAS, the Maintenance System of the Tunnel and Reservoir Plan, consisting of 31.5 miles of rock tunnels ranging in.size to 35 feet in diameter and lying from 150 to 350 feet below the ground surface and having I a pumping station capable of pumping 700 million gallons per day from the tunnels to the surface, has been constructed; and WHEREAS, the Mainstream System project has been constructed ahead of schedule and under budget; and i WHEREAS, the Mainstream System will be dedicated on May 24, 1985; i NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Evanston, Cook County,Illinois, that the Mainstream Tunnel and Reservoir Plan System will greatly benefit this area's environment and well being. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that on May 24, 1985, the Mainstream Tunnel and Reservoir System be dedicated and celebrated.
