HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1985-018-R-853/21/85 • 18-R-85 A RESOLUTION Recognizing the Problem of Insufficient Space to Support the Proper Provision of Services at the Evanston Public Library WHEREAS, there is an established free public library and reading room located at 1.703 Orrington Avenue for the use i of the inhabitants of the City of Evanston, which library and reading room is known as the "Evanston Public Library"; and WHEREAS, the Evanston Public Library is under the supervision and management of a Board of nine (9) Directors, appointed in accordance with the provisions relating to public libraries; and WHEREAS, the Evanston Library Board has come to the opinion after due study and consideration that the current Evanston Public Library is no longer adequately sized for the provision of a level of service appropriate for the inhabitants • of the City of Evanston; and i WHEREAS, it is acknowledged that a number of planning and funding issues need to be'considered before a solution to the space inadequacy of the Evanston Public Library as determined by the Evanston Library Board, can be found; and WHEREAS, it is acknowledged that before a solution to a problem can be found, formal acknowledgement of the problem is appropriate; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Evanston City Council, upon the recommendation of the Evanston Libary Board, It and the Administration and Public Works Committee does hereby (I affirm that the Evanston Public Library, located at 1703 i i �i Orrington Avenue, suffers from a serious shortage of space, f j that this shortage of space inhibits the provision of the •appropriate level of library service to the citizens of Evanston, that a resolution to this problem is recognized as an 6 18-R-8'5 important community need, and that the Evanston City Council hereby extends its support to the Library.Board in their effort to locate non-public support to fund a solution to�this serious community problem. • or • ATTEST: City Clerk Adopted:, �h14'111414451-' 1985. -2-
