A RESOLUTION
Renaming the
Committee on Committees
I
WHEREAS, the Committee on Committees has reviewed
the purpose and function.of the Committee on Committees; and
WHEREAS, the Committee on Committees is
i
responsible for the consideration and definition of the rules
jwhich govern City Council procedures; and
i
WHEREAS, the Committee on Committees has
determined that a different name would better reflect the
I
i
purpose and function of the Committee,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY ILLINOIS
SECTION 1: That the Committee on Committees be
renamed the Rules Committee; and
SECTION 2: That Resolution 62-R-86, Adopting
Rules and Organization of the City i
Council of the City of Evanston, be amended is'
follows:
Section 3.1 Any rule may be amended or repealed ,
at any regular meeting of the City
Council, upon a, prior submission thereof in
writing, by the Rules Committees or by four or
more Aldermen. The requested changes must be
distributed to members of the City Council at
i
least one week in advance of the vote thereon.
The proposed amendment or repeal must be approved
by two-thirds of the Aldermen currently holding
office.
• Section 9.2 Standinq Committees There shall
I
be four standing committees of the �
City Council: (1) Rules Committees; (2)
Administration and Public -Works; (3) Human
Services; and (4) Planning and Development. j
Standing committees, other than the. Rules
i
Committees, meet before the regular Council
meetings and may also set additional Mondays and
j
such other meeting times as necessary.

Section 9.3.1 A Rules Committee consisting of
five Aldermen not standing for
reelection shall be selected by the Council at a
i
regular meeting which shall be not less than two'
weeks nor more than eight weeks preceding the i
regular biennial aldermanic election. Such
Committee shall hold office until its successors
are selected.
Section 9.7 Committee. Chairmen. The
Chairmanship of the Standing
Committees shall be determined by seniority and
shall be rotated automatically every 12 weeks
except the Rules Committee which shall rotate
every eight weeks. However, the members of any
Council committee may regulate and adjust the
rotation of the chairmanship so as to accommodate
.vacations, illnesses, and other contingencies.

Section 9.10.2 Special Committees of the Aldermen
which shall be composed of Aldermen.

all times the list of Aldermen by

Temporary Chair (as defined in glossary) as
