HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1982-037-PR-827/9/82 7/13/82 37-PR-82 A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Evanston acknowledges and shares the interest and goal of Evanston residents and businessmen to i maintain. -within the City a safe, desirable and harmonious environment in which to live and work; and 1 WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes and .deplores th4 damage to. private lives and public welfare which can be caused by the fear of the existence of gangs in any community, especially a community noted for .' pioneering efforts to promote the civil rights of all its citizens; and WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that there has been increased citizen concern caused by the reported presence of gangs in the City, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL.OF THE CIT'T OF EVANSTON: SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Evanston hereby • reiterates its position that intimidation, criminal �! activity, or the threat of criminal activity directed against any citizen or i business within the City of Evanston by any individual or group of indivi- duals will not be tolerated; Section 2: That the City Council of the City of Evanston is in full support of the Evanston Police Department and the ! Department's firm and judicious response to reported incidents of criminal activity in the community; and SECTION 3: That the City Council of the City of Evanston strongly encourages and enlists the efforts of individuals, neighborhood groups, and community agencies within the City of Evanston to address the problems associated.with the perception of gang activity in Evanston, and the problems of unemployment an econo is .privation. • /��i Mao r ATTEST: City Clerk Adopted': / v 1982 I
