Resolution
Endorsing Anti -Pollution Bond Issue
WHEREAS, a referendum will be held at the November 3 General
Election on a proposed $750,000,000 State-wide anti pollution bond issue;
and
WHEREAS, proceeds of the bond issue would be used for planning,
financing, and constructing municipal sewage treatment works and solid
waste disposal facilities; and .
WHEREAS, these funds would provide the State of Illinois por-
tion for a program of joint State and Federal financing for these projects;
and
• WHEREAS, the City Council and citizens of the City of Evanston
have expressed great concern and urgency about the improvement of municipal
sewage treatment works so as to reduce and prevent the pollution of Lake
Michigan and Illinois rivers and streams; and
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston and the Chicago metropolitan area
.in general faces serious solid waste disposal problems calling for the
provision of new disposal facilities on a regional or State basis:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City
of Evanston, Illinois, that it hereby supports passage of the $750,000,000
State of Illinois Anti -Pollution Bond Issue and urges Evanston voters to
vote "YES" at the November 3, 1970 General Election; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk be and hereby is
instructed to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to Senator Robert
W. Mitchler, Chairman of the Water Pollution and Water Resources Commission
of the State of Illinois.
