AN ORDINANCE
Amending Schedule I, “Speed Limit Increased,” of City Code Section
10-11-1 Reducing the Speed Limit on Emerson Street from the City
Limits to Green Bay Road from 30 MPH to 25 MPH
WHEREAS, there is a safety benefit to reduced vehicle speeds in the City because
of the reduced risk of injury when an accident occurs and allowing better reaction time to drivers
to avoid accidents; and
WHEREAS, City staff has determined that reducing the speed limit on Emerson
Street from the City limits to Green Bay Road from 30 mph to 25 mph will have safety benefits ,
and
WHEREAS, the Evanston City Council finds that it is in the best interest of the City
of Evanston to amend the City Code to reduce the speed limit on Emerson Street from 30 mph
to 25 mph;
NOW BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS, THAT:
SECTION 1: Section 10-11-1, Schedule I of the Evanston City Code of
2012, as amended, “Speed Limit Increased,” is hereby further amended as follows:
Emerson Street – City limits West to Green Bay
Road
30 mph
SECTION 2: The findings and recitals contained herein are declared to be
prima facie evidence of the law of the City and will be received in evidence as provided
by the Illinois Complied Statues and the courts of the State of Illinois.
SECTION 3: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed.
SECTION 4: If any provision of this ordinance or application thereof to any

person or circumstance is ruled unconstitutional or otherwise invalid, such invalidity shall
not affect other provisions or applications of this ordinance that can be given effect without
the invalid application or provision, and each invalid provision or invalid application of this
ordinance is severable.
SECTION 5: This ordinance will be in full force and effect from and after its
passage, approval and publication in the manner provided by law.
