Recommended Action:
Staff recommends that the Public Works Agency execute a contract with GNV HVAC
Group for HVAC improvements to the Robert Crown Kiln Room in the amount of
$12,900. GNV HVAC Group’s proposal is a not -to-exceed amount and includes a
$4,000 allowance for electrical work. Staff anticipates that the final project cost will likely
be significantly lower than the $12,320 proposal submitted by the other contractor. In
addition, the engineering consultant retained for this project has successfully worked
with GNV HVAC Group on past projects and recommended the firm based on that
experience.
Funding Source:
Funding is available from the Crown Construction Fund (416.40.4160.65515-625045).
This fund dedicates $200,000 for construction for both the Kiln Room HVAC
Improvements and Construction related to the overheating of the south hallway at the
Robert Crown Community Center. Note that the south hallway issue was addressed by
installing motorized shades—a project recently completed at a total cost of $102.850.
This leaves a balance of $97,150 in the budget.
Background Information:
The Kiln Room at the Robert Crown Community Center regularly experiences
temperatures within the room high enough to damage the kiln’s electronic equipment.
To develop a long-term solution, the City retained a mechanical engineering consultant
to design HVAC improvements for the space, resulting in the construction documents
that were subsequently issued as part of the RFP process.

Three HVAC contractors were contacted to provide pricing for this project. A
representative from each company visited the site and two of the three provided
proposals. Following is a list of the quotes received:
