STAFF REPORTS
Chair Williams said she attended the August 11th Environmental Board meeting where
they discussed lighting, sustainability and environmental justice. The Environmental and
Utility Boards are preparing a letter to City Council requesting funding for a
comprehensive lighting study, to update lighting throughout the community, including
the Tallmadge light poles. The letter includes language indicating that they will consult
with the Preservation Commission.
Commissioners agreed that the Tallmadge lights are unique and a very special aspect
of Evanston and that they are an important character defining feature of the community.
The Commission agreed that a contingency plan should be in place if the Tallmadge
lights were to be phased faced out.
