Members of the Commission will listen to citizens' concerns. (49 0-93) (103-0-93) (89-O-10). COMMITTEE COMPOSITION: The Mayor appoints commission members with the advice and consent of the City Council. In making appointments, the Mayor may consider an individual's engineering or finance experience and their familiarity with utilities industries and regulations. Members must be residents of the City or work in the City. PERIODIC REVIEW OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Pursuant to the requirement of the ordinance creating the Utilities Commission, the following is prepared to communicate the future goals of the Commission including any change in functions, proposed programs for the year and any budgetary requirements. Number of Members: Seven (7) members appointed by the Mayor. Term: Four (4) year terms, Members may serve no more than two (2) terms. Meeting Dates: 3nd Friday of each month at 7:15 A.M. Location: Evanston Water Treatment Plant (555 Lincoln St.) Reports to: Administrative and Public Works Committee Staff Contact: Darrell King, Water Production Bureau Chief 2025 Planned Meeting Dates: January 24 July 18 February 21 August 15 March 21 September 19 April 18 October 17 May 16 November 21 June 20 December 19 The Commission has adopted the following goals for 2025: 1.Standing Goals: a.Maintain a full complement of Commission members and work with the City and Aldermen for recruitment. b.Prepare a written summary of accomplishments for the preceding year. c.Prepare a written set of goals for the forthcoming year. d.Undertake periodic tours of infrastructure relevant to the Commission including the water treatment plant and facilities, sewer facilities and electrical and gas infrastructure 2.Assist the city in rolling out the private side lead service line grant program and continue to assist in developing efficient lead service line replacement programs. 3.Support the city in leveraging assets and property to support clean energy systems and utility infrastructure. 4.Support the implementation of the CARP, in a manner that is sensitive to residents’ ability/willingness to participate and assist the city in identifying low-cost, carbon free energy sources and attributes. 5.Establish standardized metrics with the City and ComEd for evaluating the condition of the electrical grid within Evanston for the current and future needs. 6.Identify and advise on opportunities for the city to beneficially participate in electrical energy and capacity markets. 7.Position the City to effectively address the PFAS issues associated with drinking water and the forthcoming legislation/regulations 8.Request an update/readout of the City’s Emergency Response Plan for the Drinking Water System. Subsequently working with the City to determine any potential areas for improvement, including but not limited to communicating with business and residents efficiently during emergency situations.
