A RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON AND
SCHOOL DISTRICT 65 SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston and the Evanston/Skokie School District 65,
in the interest of promoting lifelong safe road behavior and active transportation to school
and throughout the community, have partnered to create an in-school walk and bike safety
and skills pilot program and;
WHEREAS, the parties hereto are desirous to support goals stated in the
Climate Action and Resilience Plan (CARP), the 2014 Bicycle Plan, the 2009 Multi-modal
Plan, the Evanston Project for the Local Assessment of Needs (EPLAN), 2022 ADA
Transition Plan, and a number of other City plans through conducting educational programs
for the health and wellness benefit of school children and the community;
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Evanston is pleased to support the
Safe Routes to School program and is committed to provide necessary support,
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston wishes to apply for up to $100,000 under the
Illinois Safe Routes to School Program which has no requirement for matching funds for the
purpose of supporting this pilot program;
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston has the funds available to finance the
improvements until reimbursed by the Illinois Safe Routes to School Program, and the
financial capability to maintain and manage the completed project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:

SECTION 1: The foregoing recitals are hereby found as fact and incorporated
by reference herein.
SECTION 2: That the City of Evanston hereby applies for assistance from the
Illinois Safe Routes to School Program for the purpose of creating an in-school walk and bike
safety and skills pilot program in partnership with School District 65.
SECTION 3: This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after the
date of its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
