King, Water Production Bureau Chief Subject: ABB Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) Purchase - Pumping Station Date: March 22, 2024 Recommended Action: Staff recommends the City Manager approve the sole source purchase of the ABB 8kVA 120/240V single – phase UPS from ParamontEO (1000 Davey Road, Suite 100, Woodridge, IL 60517) in the amount of $15,177.00. Funding Source: Funding in the amount of $15,177.00 will be from the Water Fund account number 510.40.4210.62245, which has a FY 2024 budget allocation of $198,000.00. This account has a year-to-date balance of $151,800.01. Summary: The pumping station building UPS is approximately 15 years old and should be replaced. The replacement of the pumping station, service building (scheduled to be replaced during Q2 2024), and filtration building (replaced during 2023) UPS were all scheduled to be replaced as part of the 4160-volt electrical reliability project that is at 100% design and will go out for bid during Q3 of this year. This project will be completed during 2027. Currently this UPS is providing backup for the service building (until the new service building UPS is installed during Q2 2024), provides back-up power to the plc cabinets in pumping, high lift and low lift overhead doors, fire alarm panel, NWC cabinet, cone valve - check valve that prevents water from the NWC from coming back and flooding the pumping station, pump station computers, the main gate controller, etc. Staff reached out to Greeley and Hansen, who is the design engineering firm for the current electrical reliability project, for their recommendation. They recommended the ABB 8kVA 120/240V single-phase UPS, which will replace the existing system in-kind. The UPS will be the same ABB manufacturer and will have similar features, warranty, and service requirements. The UPS is in stock and can be delivered quickly for installation. ParamontEO is the local distributor for the ABB UPS.
