King, Water Production Bureau Chief Subject: Siemen’s Level Probe Purchase Date: February 9, 2024 Recommended Action: Staff recommends the sole source purchase of thirteen Siemen’s level probes Lesman Instrument Company (135 Bernice Drive, Bensenville, IL 60106) in the amount of $16,512.96. Funding Source: Funding for this purchase is provided by the Water Fund account, 510.40.4220.65085, which has a FY 2024 budget allocation of $115,000.00. This account has a YTD balance of $110,669.49. Background: The Evanston Water Treatment Plant filtration system consists of a total of 24 filters with a peak rated filtration capacity of 108 million gallons per day (mgd). Maintaining water filtration plants requires proper preventative maintenance which in turn can prolong filter operation, enhance performance, and ensure effluent goals and regulatory compliance requirements are achieved. The existing 1914 and 1924 West Filter plant level sensing probes are thirty years old and in need of replacement. The probes allow the water plant operators to monitor the water levels in the filters and operate them based off the detected levels. These level probes prevent the filters from running dry and overflowing. Staff prefer Siemen’s brand probes because there are already twelve of them installed on the filters in the 1948 and 1964 East filter plant filters and staff is familiar with the equipment. In addition, SCADA integration will be easier, and this purchase will provide spare parts. Lesman Instrument Company is the only area distributor for the Siemen’s level probes.
