February 2,1993 A PUBLIC HEARING was held by the Evanston City Council on Tuesday, February 2, 1993, at 7:45 P.M. in the City Council Chamber to receive public comment on the proposed City of Evanston Zoning Ordinance. ROLL CALL - PRESENT: Alderman Davis Alderman Brady Alderman Heydemann Alderman Kent Alderman Moran Alderman Nelson Alderman Wollin A Quorum being present. ABSENT: Aldermen Paden, Drummer and Washington TARDY: Alderman Esch PRESIDING: Mayor Joan W. Barr Alderman Engelman Alderman Rainey Alderman Lanyon Alderman Feldman Alderman Warshaw Alderman Fiske Alderman Newman Jacques Gourguechon, of Camiros, Ltd., the City's consultant on the Zoning Ordinance, presented an overview of the process that went into developing the Ordinance and the new concepts contained in it. CITIZEN COMMENT: The following citizens presented comment on the Ordinance: Gordon McGrew Jeremy Wilson Jack Shea Raymond Grady Jonathan Perman Raymond Pierrehumbert Janet Messenger David Reynolds Frank K. Hoover David Saunders Elizabeth Wilson Edmund Pabst Lois Mawr Chuck Remen 2 February 2, 1993 Citizens who presented comments on the proposed Zoning Ordinance - continued Mary Singh Theodosia Fitzmorris Eric Ericksson Roger Parris Alderman Brady, Mayor Barr, Aldermen Heydemann, Rainey, Engelman, and Warshaw discussed the process to be used to move the Ordinance toward adoption. It was the consensus of the Council to deal with proposed technical changes in the Planning and Development Committee and to deal with the controversial aspects of the Ordinance in Committee of the Whole discussions. Alderman Nelson said that he felt that the Chicago Tribune had recently been engaged in bashing our community and felt that it had not gotten its facts correct in a recent story on crime statistics. He noted that it had played up violent crime in Evanston, while down playing drug problems in Glenview and Northbrook. He thanked the Evanston Review for a more balanced story on the same topic. He suggested that the Tribune be more even-handed in its reporting. There being no further business to come before the Public Hearing, Mayor Barr declared it to be. at an end at 9:58 P.M.
