Summary
During the month of May 2011, TPS allowed the City to use a Solar Powered Pay and
Display Terminal as a trial meter in the 600 block of Clark. The terminal was installed to
ascertain the acceptance of this form of meter technology in and around the area of
Chicago Avenue and Clark Streets. Due to the convenience of credit card usage 77.6%
of transactions were made by credit cards and only 22.4% usage with coin (dollar bills
not accepted). The solar energy feature made for easy installation and did not need
any additional energy source for the terminal to function throughout the pilot.
Alderman Fiske related to the Parking/Transportation Committee that resident of her
ward at Chicago Avenue and Clark Street were very positive as to the potential of the
terminal, liked the convenience and that the new technology will allow the removal of
the existing fourteen (14) single -head meters and posts giving the block a cleaner
appearance.
Total Parking Solutions (TPS) has been instrumental in the purchase of three (3) Pay -
by -Space Terminals in City Parking Lots 10, 14 and 60. These terminals have proven to
be very successful and have functioned at a high level. The CALE Pay and Display
I erminal have the same tunctionality as the current GALL product with the exception
that it will not have a bill acceptor and is solar powered. Rates and other functions can
be monitored using the CALE WebOffice Central Management System.
In a CALE Paring System USA, Inc. letter dated August 18, 2009, TPS has been
provided exclusive rights to sell, service and maintain any and all CALE USA equipment
within the corporate area of Evanston.
The Transportation/Parking Committee recommended approval of the purchase at their
meeting of May 25, 2011.
