Minutes from the June lst meeting were discussed and approved. LAC Agenda Linda reviewnd Lhu 2 major Ecology Center objectives that staff are working on. 1. LoAr BoxfSchool Programs Teacher survey_ were done to evaluate topics that would supplQmeyi_ _,chnol curriculum. Meetings have: been held with T° V ='^:' ,_,_ bos in to understand how the Ecology Center can inyugrain twit h existing school programs. Topics will be saleceted in July and activities and programs aeveloped. 2. Executive Service Corps: Financial record -keeping and compre inna lve tundrai sing . Alber,Y. Dome and Linda met with the ESC. =0 ESC was not ready tea Five the EEA the specific help requested. The ESC required more information on the EEA/LAC and future goals of the organization. The ESC thought the EEA board may be too small - D do the work necessary for fun6r.aig q . Linda has developed a table of contents for the Operations Manual that is being reviewed by Don Wirth. Writing on sections of the manual will begin soon. Summer lump Progress report Linda reported that summer camps are going well. The hot weather is requiring that the children alternate between spending time in and outside. It was moved snd approved to end the LAC por'tiorJ of the meeting. f� EEA Agenda Financial Report Dave reported that the 1986 tax return is almost finished. Work on this year's tax return should be comPlVted in August. Dave has been working to find an auditor and is pursuing one who origi"ally was interested in the project. Dave is planning on setting a date for the Investment Committee to meet. Decisions need to be made regarding the Fergusy" runA and swings account accumulations. EEA/LAC name and function distinction The board discussed what they considered to be the various responsiblities of the EEA and LAC. While some issues such as the not Coi- profit status seem clear cut, others are hard to define. Board members will review the legal documents for the EEA/LAC. Linda will try to ;et by-laws of other similiur groups such as Friends of the Library to distribute to Board members. The Board agreed that it has been a good idea to have separate agendas For the EEA and LAC and will continue to do this. The Board is interested in pursuing support for the EEA through the school PTA's, parents of children involved in EEA programs and interested citizens. Plans will be designed to recruit this support. EEA Board Election Neal discussed the need to have Board elections. Board officer positions are vacant and some positions may need rethink in.- ,t w.�is agreed to defer elections o a later. date. This appear on the September agenda. Human Services Triennial Review Linda discussed communications from the Human Sbrvices Committee. The LAC board is due for its three year review. Linda will prepare the review report and send it out to members for review. Fish Boil Preparations for the Fish Boil are completed. Sevent7 reservations are pre -paid. The following minutes detail the discussion held by the board members present. LAC AGENDA The board reviewed the proposed budget for the administration of the Ecology Center and EEA sponsored environmental education programs. The basic financial figures met with approval. Board members offered suggestions on changes in wording on soma budget justification areas and budget objectives. Linda will make these changes and corrections and have revised copies of the budget ready for the SeptemLer 14 t`: meeti-Q, (when the board will be meeting with the Exec ,:;-ve S?wvice Corps). The board additionally reviewed the budget me,;o from t ne LAC that will accompany the budget. Rewording suggestions :were incorporated. Possible inclusion will be Jr. High age LADD ARBORETUM ECOLOGY CENTER LIGHTHOUSE NATURE CENTER camping/explore programs, Elderhostel, and more intense • soience programs. HOARD ELECTIONS The board briefly discussed elections. It was agreed that elections should take place soon so smooth transitions to new positions could be accomplished. EEA AGENDA Linda reviewed the status of the long range planning objectives. 1. Thee-EEA will meet with the Executive Service Corps on wednesday, September 14th to discuss board involvement in the consulting process. The ESC will be helping with financial management and fundraising. 2. School program restructuring should be completed by the first of the year. A summer staff person will be helping to complete the school loan box. program. This will be done by December in order to meet grant requirements. 3. Progress on the Operations Manual was slowed during the summer due to Linda's involvement with the summer camp Program. A table of contents and introductory materials have been completed. Work will progress on the manual after the budget season. PTA PROGP.AM Linda reported that she had met with Sandy Swanson, President of the PTA Council, The Ecology Center staff will be hosting a workshop/reception for the PTA President's and Environmental Chairmen in October. The purpose will be to explain what services the EEA can provide to the local school of District ff65 NEXT MEETING The next meeting of the LAC/EEA will be wednesday, October 5th, at 7:30 PM.
