` AN ORDINANCE

'! Amending Sections 23-4, 23-7, 23-8
and adding Sections 23-13, 23-14,
and 23-15 of the Housing Code, being
Chapter 23 of the Code of the City
of Evanston, Illinois, 1957.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF

EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1: That Sections 23--4, 23-7 and 23-8

of the Code of the City of Evanston,
Illinois 1957, be and the same are hereby amended by adding

thereto the following sub -sections so that same shall here- ,
after be and read as follows:
23-4 (e): All construction done and installations made
to comply with the provisions of this ordinance shall
be in accordance with the ordinances of the City of
Evanston and Statutes of the State of Illinois regu-
lating such construction and installations.
23-7 (9): All exterior wood surfaces on all dwellings
shall be reasonably protected from the elements and
against decay by a suitable protective material and
must conform with requirements set forth in Section
855.5 of the Basic Building Code as adopted by the
City of Evanston governing exterior weather board
and veneers.
(h): On every dwelling each chimney previously
existing or to be built or altered shall be provided
with a non-combustible cap and shall be provided
with bracing and roof anchorage as required by
Article 10 of the Basic Building Code as adopted
by the City of Evanston, Every chimney shall be
kept in safe repair.
(i): Every inside and outside stairway, porch and
every appurtenance thereto of every dwelling shall
be maintained in a good state of repair as to be
safe to use and capable of supporting the load that
normal use may cause to be placed upon it and shall
meet the standards set forth in the Basic Building
Code as adopted by the City of Evanston for con-
struction and maintenance.
(j): All garages, tool sheds and all other out-
buildings shall be kept in good repair so as not to
be unsafe or become a harborage for rats and other
rodents. Nor shall any wood or lumber or any other
material or object be stored, kept or permitted to
remain except temporarily on the premises, in such
a manner that will afford harborage for rats.

�3-$ : In every existing dwelling the finished
floor to finished ceiling height of every rented or
leased habitable room mast be at least six feet
eight inches. No ducts, pipes electrical ceiling
fixtures shall obstruct the passages in or out of
an room or the normal passage about any room.
Al newly constructed habitable, rooms must have a
floor to ceiling height as required by Section 501
of the Basic Building Code as adopted by the City
of Evanston..
SECTION 2: That there be added to Chapter 23
of the Housing Code, Sections 23-139
23-14 and 23-15, which shall be and read as follows:

2 - : Duties of the Director of Building) The
or of Building shall determine that all the
requirements of the Building Code, the Zoning Or-
dinance, the Plumbing Coda and the Electrical Code
of the City of Evanston are complied with and that
the premises are safe and habitable and are provided
with adequate facilities for heat, light and ventilation.
23-14: Duties of the Fire Marshal) The Fire Marshal
shall determine that all fire hazards have been elim-
inated from said premises; that said premises have
proper and sufficient fire extinguishing equipment,
that said premises compi with all regulations and
recommendations of the City of Evanston Bureau of
Fire Prevention.
23-15: Duties of the Director of Health) The Director
of Health -shall determine that all regulations and
orders of the Illinois Department of Health and the
Department of health of the City of Evanston as well
as all provisions of the Mousing Ordinance of the
City of Evanston and sill^provisions of any other
ordinances pertaining to the sanitation of said
premises and every part thereof, and to the preser-
vation of the health of the occupants thereof have
been complied with.
SECTION 3: All ordinances or parts of ordinances
in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
