AN ORDINANCE
Providing for the Licensing of
Motor Vehicle Repair Shops.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS.
SECTION 1: That there be added to Chapter
16 "Factories and Workshops" of
the Code of the City of Evanston, Illinois., 1957, Sections
16-10.1 to 16-10.5-inclusive, providing for the licensing of
Motor Vehicle Repair Shops, so that said sections shall read
as follows:
SECTION 16-10.1 Motor Vehicle Repair Shop Defined
The words "motor vehicle repair shop" as used in this
article shall be held to mean,'and are hereby defined
as meaning, any building,.structure, premises, enclo-
sure, or other place where the business of doing repair
work on or for automobiles, auto -cars, auto trucks,
motorcycles, or any of the component parts thereof, the
replacing of or the adding of parts thereto, or the
polishing, washing, greasing,.painting or refinishing
of such vehicle is carried on.
Section 16-10.2 License required.
No person, firm or corporation shall manage, conduct,
operate or carry on the business of a motor vehicle
repair shop without first having obtained a license
therefor.
Section 16-10.3 Application for License.
Application for license to conduct and maintain or
carry -on the business of motor vehicle repair shop
shall be made in writing to the City Collector and
approved by the City Manager. The application shall
contain the name of the applicant, if an individual, the.
names of the principal officers, if a corporation, the
location of the place of business at which it is desired c:; nJ
or the intention to carryon such motor vehicle repair
shop business for which a license is desired. A separ-
ateā¢ license .shall be required for each motor vehicle
repair shop establishment carried on or conducted by any
applicant wherever located in the City of Evanston.
Before a license §'ha11 be issued, each applidation
shall be submitted to the Director of Building who
shall determine that all the requirements of the Boca
Basic Building Code, the zoning ordinance, the Plumbing
Code and the Electrical Code of the City of Evanston,
are complied with. If it shall appear from the appli-
cation so filed and approved by the Director of Building

as hereinabove provided, then upon the payment of the
license fee hereinafter provided, the City Collector
shall issue to said applicant a license authorizing
said applicant to engage in or carry on the business
of motor vehicle repair shop in the place designated in
the license and for the period herein stated.
Dection 16-10.4. License Fee.
The annual license fee for each motor vehicle repair
shop shall be as follows:
One person engaged and less than five. . $25.00
Five persons engaged and less than ten . . . 35.00
Ten persons engaged and less than twenty 50.00
Twenty persons and'over 75.00
All licenses issued under the provisions of this
ordinpnce shall expire on the 31st day of December
following date of issuance, provided however, that
if less than six months of the annual license period
shall have expired at the time when such license is
issued, the full license fee shall be charged therefor.
If six or more months of the annual license period
shall have expired, one-half of the full license fee
shall be charged. Said license shall be posted and
remain posted in a conspicuous place in said motor
vehicle repair shop.
Section 16-10.5. Motor Vehicle Repair Shop in
Conjunction with Public Garage or
Public Parking Lot.
Any motor vehicle repair shop conducted, maintained, or
operated in conjunction with any"public garage, or
public parking lot shall require only one license, and
that license shall be that which is the greater.
SECTION 2: All ordinances or parts of
ordinances in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed.
SECTION 3: Any person, firm or corporation who
shall violate any of the provisions
of this ordinance shall be puni.she d by a fine in accordance with
Section 1-4 of the Code of the City of Evanston, 1957. Each
day that a violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall
continue shall constitute a'separate offense.
SECTION 4: This ordinance shall be in full
force and effect from and after
its passage, approval, and publication, according to law.
