AN ORDINANCE
Ivnending Article V of the Code of
the City of Evanston, 1957, 1°Restricting
or Prohibiting Standing or Parking of
Motor Vehicles upon Certain Streets
and Alleys" by adding thereto Section
27-100.1 and Section 27-10012.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS :
SECTION 1: That there be added to Article V of
the Code of the City of .Vanston,
1957, "Restricting or Prohibiting Standing and Farking of Motor
• Vehicles upon Certain Streets and Alleys" Sections 27-100.1 and
27-100.2.
27-100.1: No person shall park a motor vehicle, except
when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or
in compliance with the directions of a police officer
or traffic control device, in any of the following places:
1. On a sidewalk
2. In front of a public or private driveway
3. Within an intersection
4. Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant
5. On a crosswalk
6. FTithin 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection
7. Within 30 feet upon the approach to any flashing
beacon, stop sign, or traffic -control signal
located at the side of a roadway
8. Between a safety zone and the adjacent curb or
within 30 feet of points on the curb immediately
opposite the ends of a safety zone, unless a different
length is indicated by signs or markings

4. Within 50 feet of the nearest rail of arailroa.d
grade crossing
10. Within 20 feet of the driveway entrance to any fire
station and on the side of a street opposite the
entrance to any fire station within 75 feet of said
entrance when properly sign -posted
11. Alongside or opposite any street excavation or
obstruction when such parking; would obstruct traffic
12. On the roads. -ray side of any vehicle parked at the
edge or curb of a street
13. Upon or under any viaduct, bridge or other elevated
structure, upon any street or highway
14. At any place where official. signs prohibit parking
27-100.2: No person driving; or in charge of any motor
vehicle shall permit it to stand unattended without first
stopping the engine, locking the ignition and removing
the key, or when standing upon any perceptible grade
without effectively setting the brake thereon and turning
the front wheels to the curb or side of the street or highway;
SE;C?0N 2: Any person, firm or corporation who
violates any of the provisions of
Sections 27-100.1 or 27-100.2 of this ordinance shall be guilty of
a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of not less than $5 if paid
within 10 days after the date of said violation notice, and not
less than $6 if paid more than 10 days after the date of said
violation notice, and not exceeding; $100. Any violator may avoid
prosecution for violating this ordinance before legal action has
been brought against him by surrendering the traffic ticket or
other notice of violation, either received or placed upon such
vehicle, and paying to the Clerk of the Municipal Court of Evanston

within 10 days from the date appearing on said violation notice,
the sum of $5; or, if not paid within la days from the date of
said violation notice, then the sum of $6 before legal action has
been brought against the violator. Any person miking such payment
shall receive a receipt therefor from the Clerk of the Municipal
Court of Evanston.
SECTION 3: That all ordinances or parts of
ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby repealed.
SECTIONT 4: This ordinance shall be in full
force and effect from and after
its passage, approval and publication, according to law.
