AN ORDINANCE
Amending Sections 32-1 to 32-6 inc.,
and 32-9 to 32-14 inc., of the Code
of the City of Evanston 1957, as amended,
regulating "Peddlers."
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON,
COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS-,
SECTION 14 That Sections 32-1 to 32-6 inclusive,
and 32-9 to 32-14 inclusive, of the
Code of the City of Evanston 1957, as amended,, be and the same are
hereby amended so as to read as follows;
Section 32-1 - License; It shall be unlawful for any
person, firm or corporation to engage in the business of
peddling any goods, wares or merchandise as herein
defined within the City without first having.obtained a
license for that purpose as provided herein.
Section 32-2 - Definitions; (1) "Peddling" as herein
defined, shall include the selling, bartering or exchanging
or the offering for sale, barter or exchange of any goods,
wares and merchandise upon or along the streets, highways
or public places of the City, or at the doors of residences
or apartments, from any wagon, motor vehicle, push cart or
by pack, but shall not include the delivery of any item
previously ordered or the sale of items along delivery
routes where the purchaser has previously requested the
seller to stop and exhibit his items, nor shall "peddling"
include the solicitation of orders by sample where the
goods are not delivered at the time the order is taken.
(2) "Pack Peddler" as defined herein, shall mean and
include those peddling goods, wares and merchandise from
a basket or other like receptacle carried by a peddler.
(3) "Push Cart Peddler," as defined herein, shall
include those peddling goods, wares and merchandise from
a cart or similar vehicle drawn or propelled by human power.
(4) "wagon or Vehicle Peddler," as herein defined,
shall include those peddling goods, wares and merchandise
by means of a motor vehicle or horse-drawn vehicle.

Section 32-3 - Application for License - Registration-,
Any person, firm or corporation who desires a license
as a peddler as herein defined, shall make application
in writing to the City Collector. Such application shall
contain the full name and address of the applicant,
whether he desires to be licensed to peddle by pack,
from a push cart, or wagon or other vehicle as herein
defined, together with a description of the commodities,
articles or other type of merchandise which he intends
to peddle.
Any application to peddle bakery goods,
prepared food, confections, ice cream, beverages, juices,
butter,eggs, or any food or drink, shall be investigated
by the Director of Public Health, whose duty it shall be
to ascertain that the applicant has complied with all
ordinances of the City of Evanston pertaining to the
sale and distribution of food and beverages and report
his findings to the City Collector before license is
issued.
The applicant shall register with the Police
Department and furnish that department with information
regarding applicant's name and address, by whom he is
employed or with whom he is associated, together with the
place of residence of the registrant during the preceding
• 12 months, the names and addresses of at least two persons
who have known registrant for at least one year, and to
whom registrant is willing that inquiry be made to
verify the facts stated by registrant. In addition
thereto such registrant shall submit to the Department
of Police at least two photographs of himself, and shall
permit the Department of Police to fingerprint,him, and
in the event the Department or Police is satisfied that
the registrant meets the proper standards of moral
character, honesty and integrity, he shall be provided
with a card bearing applicant's name and address and a
brief description of the registrant signed by the Chief
of Police, which card registrant shall carry with him
as evidence of his registration.
Section 32-4 - License Fees; The annual license fees
for peddlers shall be as follows°
(a) Pack Peddler . . . . . . . . . $30
(b) Push Cart Peddler . . . . . $30
(c) Peddle by Wagon or Motor.Vehicle $75

Section 32-5 - Peddler's Badge; Each peddler as defined
herein, shall receive from the city when his license is
granted, a badge bearing the license number, which badge
shall be worn and conspicuously displayed by the peddler
on his outer garment at all times while engaged in
business in the city.
SECTION 2, That Sections 32-1 to 32-6 inc.,
and Sections 32-9 to 32-14 inc.,
of the Code of the City of Evanston 1957, be and the same are
hereby expressly repealed, and all ordinances or parts of or-
dinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
SECTION 3! This ordinance shall be in full
force and effect from and after
its passage, approval and publication, according to law.
