HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-1962-044-O-62AN ORDINANCE Providing for a Special City Election for Mayor. WHEREAS, a vacancy has occurred in the office of Mayor due to the resignation of Mayor John R. Kimbark, effective July 31, 1962, and; 'h WHEREAS, the unexpired portion of the term of said Mayor is more than one year, and as provided by Section 3-4-6 of the Illinois Municipal Code, 1961, the vacancy shall be filled by a special election which shall be held within six months after the vacancy occurs. • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT AND IT IS HEREBY ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: That a special city election be and the same is hereby called to be held in the City of Evanston on Tuesday, November 6, 1962, for the purpose of electing a Mayor for the unexpired portion of the term,and until a Mayor is elected at the next regular election and has qualified. That said election shall be held in the regular polling places in the several voting precincts of the respec- tive wards as designated by the Board of Commissioners of Cook County for the general election to be held on said Tuesday, November 6, 1962, and that the judges appointed by said Board of Commissioners of Cook County shall officiate at and conduct said special election for and in behalf of the City of Evanston. • • • b56 Polls for said election shall be open at six o'clock (6a00) in the morning and shall close at six o'clock (6000) in the afternoon. The City Clerk be and he is hereby directed to provide for giving notice of said election and conducting the same as provided by Chapter 15, Article I, of the Municipal Code of the City of Evanston, 1957, as amended, and as further provided by law. The City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized in the manner provided by law to prepare a ballot to be used at said special election, and to cause a sample thereof to be published as required by law in a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Evanston.
