AN ORDINANCE
• Amending the Evanston Zoning
Ordinance, Adopted November ,
21, 1960, as amended
WHEREAS, the City Council referred to the Zoning
Amendment Committee for its consideration the matter of certain
amendments to the Evanston Zoning Ordinance concerning certain
property described as that part of Lake Michigan lying east of
and adjoining those portions of fractional sections 7 and 18,
Township 41 North, Range 14 East of the Third Principal Meridian,
occupied by the campus of Northwestern University and more
particularly described as follows: Beginning at a point, being
the intersection of the shore line of Lake Michigan and a line
325 feet south of and parallel to the south line of Lincoln
Street; thence east along a line perpendicular to the east line
• of Sheridan Road to a point 2500 feet east of the east line of
Sheridan Road; thence south along a line 2500 feet east of and
parallel to the east line of Sheridan Road a distance of 3700
feet; thence west along a line perpendicular to the east line
of Sheridan Road to the shore line of Lake Michigan; thence
northerly along said shore line to the point of beginning;
containing 152 acres more or less, all of which is located in
Cook County, Illinois, and more commonly known as the North-
western University landfill, being along Lake Michigan shores
between Colfax Street and Emerson Street, which property is

zoned as R1 Residential District, with a proposal to rezone
all of said property as U3 University District classification;
• and
WHEREAS, public hearing was held by the Evanston Zoning
Amendment Committee on September 10, 1964 pursuant to notice and
publication as required by law; and
WHEREAS, the Zoning Amendment Committee rendered a report
under date of September 18, 1964 recommending a change in zoning
of said areas; and
WHEREAS, in the opinion of the City Council the highest
and best use of the properties would be to change certain of
said properties from R1 General Residence District to U3
University District; and that said changes in the zoning would
not adversely affect property adjacent thereto or in the
immediate area:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
• THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLIMOis:
SECTION 1: That the Zoning Ordi-
nance of the City of
Evanston, adopted November 21, 1960, as amended, be further
amended as follows:
The following properties now classified as R1
Residential District on the Official District
Map of the Evanston Zoning Ordinance are here-
by zoned U3 University District. The regula-
tions and restrictions applicable to U3 University
District and the penalties provided for in said
Zoning Ordinance, adopted November 21, 1960, as
amended, for a violation of any such regulations

and restrictions, shall hereafter apply to the
• following properties:
That part of Lake Michigan lying east of and
adjoining those portions of fractional sections
7 and 18, Township 41 North, Range 14, East of
the Third Principal Meridian, occupied by the
campus of Northwestern University and more
particularly described as follows: Beginning at

to the point of beginning; containing 152 acres
more or less, all of which is located in Cook
County, Illinois.
SECTION 2: The Official District
Map of the Zoning
Ordinance of the City of Evanston, as amended, shall be further
amended in accordance with the provisions of this ordinance.
SECTION 3: All ordinances or parts
of ordinances in con-
flict herewith are hereby repealed.

be in full force and
effect from and after its passage, approval, and publication in
the manner provided by law.
