HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-1964-001-O-64Revised 1-20-64 1-0-64 AN ORDINANCE Amending Section 1-4 of the Code of the City of Evanston, Prescribing Penalties WHEREAS, the 1963 General Assembly has authorized munic- iplaities in the State of Illinois to raise the maximum fine for the violation of an ordinance from two hundred dollars ($200) to five hundred dollars ($500); and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the corporate authorities of the City of Evanston to enable the judiciary to impose higher fines than are presently provided for such offenses, among others, as driving with a revoked driver's license, reckless driving, and violations of the Housing Code and the Fire Code of the City of Evanston: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION to That Section 1-4 of the Code of the City of Evanston, 1957, be amended to read as follows: Sec. 1-4. General penalty; continuing violations. Whenever in this Code or in any ordinance of the city, any act is prohibited or is made or declared to be unlawful or an offense, or whenever in such Code or ordinance the doing of any act is required or the failure to do any act is declared to be unlawful, where no specific penalty is provided therefor, or where the maximum penalty provided is a fine of two hundred dollars, the violation of any such provision of this Code or any ordinance shall 4 • 0. 0 be punished by a fine not exceeding five hundred dollars. Each day any violation of any provision of this Code or of any ordinance shall continue shall constitute -a separate offense. SECTION 20 All ordinances or parts of ordinances in con- flict herewith are hereby repealed.
