HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-1966-126-O-66126-0-66 • AN ORDINANCE Establishing an Electrical Commission BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: There is hereby added to the Code of the City of Evanston, 1957, Article XIV, to read as follows: "Article XIV. Electrical Commission. "Sec. 2-181. Establishment. "An Electrical Commission for the City of Evanston is hereby created under the provisions of Division 37 of the Illinois Municipal Code, 1961, as amended. Such commission shall consist of six members as follows: The chief electrical inspector of the City of Evanston shall be a member and ex-officio chairman of the commission; one commissioner shall be a registered professional engineer; one an • electrical contractor; one a journeyman electrician; one a representative of an inspection bureau main- tained by the fire underwriters, if such a repre- sentative resides in the city, and if no such representative resides in the municipality, then the chief of the fire department, and one represen- tative of an electrical supply company. If there is no person residing in this city who is qualified under any one of these descriptions, the Mayor may appoint some other person to fill that position. All members of the Electrical Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council. "Each of the members other than the chief electrical inspector shall serve for a term of four years, except that two members shall be initially appointed to serve two years, two members shall be initially appointed to serve three years, and one member shall be initially appointed to serve four years. If the • chief of the fire department is appointed in lieu of a representative of an inspection bureau, as herein provided, he shall remain a member of the commission as long as he remains chief of the fire department. The chief electrical inspector shall remain a member and ex-officio chairman of the commission for as long as he shall hold the position of chief electrical inspector. "Sec. 2-182. Standards -.Permits - Fees. "The Electrical Commission shall recommend (1) safe and practical standards and specifications for the installation, alteration, and use of electrical equipment designed to meet the necessities and con- ditions of the City of Evanston, (2) reasonable rules and regulations governing the issuance of permits by the electrical inspection department, and (3) reasonable fees to be paid for the inspection by the inspection department of all electrical equipment installed or altered within the city. The standards, specifications, rules, regulations, and fees so recommended shall not become effective until adopted by ordinance by the City Council of the City of Evanston. All fees so adopted shall be paid into the city treasury." SECTION 2: All ordinances or parts of • ordinances in conflict here- with are hereby repealed. SECTION 3: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law. INTRODUCED October 17 ADOPTED October 24 ATTEST: /sl Maurice F.
