AN ORDINANCE
Granting the Appeal of Northwestern
University for a Variation from the
Front Yard Obstruction Regulations
of the Evanston Zoning Ordinance,
Adopted November 21, 1960.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION l: That a variation from the front
yard obstruction regulations of
the Evanston Zoning Ordinance, adopted November 21, 1960, so far
as said regulations pertain to the property located at 1905-1927
Maple Avenue, Evanston, Illinois, and legally described as M
Lots 4, 5, 6# 7 and 8, except the North 47 feet of
Lot 7 in Paul Pratte Addition to the Village of
Evanston- Illinois, beinga, subdivision of the
Southwest 8Y2 acres of the South half of the North-
east quarter of the Northwest quarter of Section 18,
Township 41 North, Range 14, East of the Third
Principal Meridian in Cook County, Illinois,
is hereby granted, permitted and made so as to permit the in-
stallation of a 40-inch railing around the sunken garden at the
main entrance on the west, and around the ramp leading to the
underground parking area on the property located at 1905-1927
Maple, Avenue, subject to the following conditions:
(1) that Garnett Place, east of Maple Avenue, shall be
improved by the University with paving, curb and gutter,
sidewalks, drainage, etc., meeting in full the sepcifi-
cations of the City of Evanston, within three years
sifter completion of the first phase project, unless
Northwestern University has obtained the vacation of
this street by that time;
(2) that the University shall provide uniform sidewalks on
the south and west sides of the property extending
from the curb line to approximately one foot from
the property Line, and a sidewalk shall be provided
. on the north side of the site connecting with the
existing sidewalk under the CTA overpass at Garnett
Place, and existing curb returns into the property
shall be replaced with new uniform curbs;
(3) that a certificate of occupancy for the proposed
building in the U4 University Housing District
• not be granted until a parking plan to compel use
of off-street parking by the car -owning residents
of the building, acceptable to the City Council,
is adopted by the University; and
(4) that the pran-s be approved by'the Traffic Engineer,

all in accordance with the recommendations of the Zoning Board
of Appeals and the City Council of the City of Evanston.
SECTION 2: The Director of Building is
ordered and directed to grant
a permit to Northt,,jestern University in accordance with the
findings and recommendations of the Zoning Board of Appeals#
SECTION 3: This ordinance shall be in full
force and effect from and after
it passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
