HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-1969-096-O-69a Amended l.l- 17-69 96-0-69 AN ORDINANCE Providing for a Special Election for Alderman of the Fifth hard WHEREAS, o vacancy ,has occurred in the office of Aldo -man of the Fifth Ward of the City of Evanston dins to the death of Alderman Eugene Seckt and WHEREAS, under the provisions of Section 5»2�9 of the Illinois municipal Code,, 1967. the vacancy ntay be filled by special.. elections and WHEkEAS,' the City Council of the City of Evanston has. determined that the bast interest of the Fifth Ward and the City of Evanston requires that a special, election be called for the purpose of filling salad ' vacancy. - NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT 0110AIHED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON# COOK COUNTY* ILLINOIS: SECTION is That a special election be and the same is hereby called to be hold in the Fifth Ward of the City of Evanston on Tuesdayf February 249 1970, for the purpose of electing an Alderman to fill the unexpired terms of Alderman Eugene Beek, and until a successor is elected at the next regular Municipal Election .and has qualified. SECTION 2: That said election shall be- held in tho regular palling places in the several, precincts of the Fifth hard of the City of Evanston as designated by the City Council., and that the Judges shall be appointed by the City Council.# and shall officiate at anc conduct said special election for and on behalf of the City of Evanston. d P. g 9 SECTION S: The polls for said election shall be open at Six o'clock (5:00) A.46 in the morning and shall close at Six o'clock (6.00) p.M, in the evening. SECTION 4: The City Clerk be and ho is hereby directed to provide for giving notice of said elect,ioa and conducting said election as provided . � by law. SECTION 5: The City Clerk be and he is hereby authorizad In the manner provide by law to prepare and cause to be printed ballots to be used at said special election, and to cause a sample thereof to be pub- lished as provided by low in a newspaper of general circulation r in the .Fifth :'hard in the City of Evanston. R ' SXTION Ea: Nominatl.ons may be jade by nomin- ation papers signed in the aggre- gate for each candi.d'ate by qualified voters of said Fifth `yard equaling not lesa then five pgrcent nor more than eight percent of the number of persons who voted at the next preceding Municipal Election in said Ward. Said nomination papers consisting of petitions for nominations and statements of candicacy shall be filed after the passage and approval of this ordinance, commencing November 18* 1969 and no later than December 22, 1969* in the office of the City Clerk. SECTION 7 a This ordinance shall be in full. force and effect from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
