AN ORDINANCE
Amending Chapter 8 of the Code of the
City of Evanston, 1957, by Repealing
Sections 8-8 through 8-21, and by
adding new Sections 8-8. through 8-15.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1: That Sections 8-8 through 8-21,
inclusive, of the Code of the City
of Evanston, 1957, be, and are hereby repealed.
SECTION 2: That Chapter 8 is further amended by
adding thereto the following:
• "Article II. Registration.
"Sec. 8-8. Required.
No person who resides within the city shall ride or
propel a bicycle on any street or upon any public
way within the city unless such bicycle has been
registered and a registration plate is attached
thereto, as provided in this article.
"Sec. 8-9. Registration - issuance.
The police department shall issue a permanent regis-
tration plate upon receipt of the proper application
and evidence of payment of the registration fee. The
department shall affix the registration plate to the
left side of the verticle section of the frame under
the seat. No person shall remove the registration
plate from the bicycle at any time.
"Sec. 8-10. City Collector to collect fees and
keep record of registrations and
fees collected.
The city collector shall collect a registration fee
of 50 cents per bicycle and shall keep a record of

the date of issuance, the name and address of
the person to whom issued, the number on the
frame of the bicycle for which issued, the per-
manent registration number of the bicycle, and
a record of all bicycle registration fees col-
lected by him.
"Sec. 8-11. When Chief of Police not to approve
issuance of registration plate.
The chief of police shall not approve the issuance
of a registration plate for any bicycle when he
knows, or has any reasonable grounds to believe,
that the applicant is not the owner of, or entitled
to possession of, such bicycle, or when the bicycle
is not properly equipped in accordance with the
provisions of this chapter and other ordinances
of the city.
"Sec. 8-12. Registration. Duty of registered
owner upon sale or other disposal of
bicycle.
Upon the sale or other disposal of a registered
• bicycle, the registered owner or the new owner
shall notify the police department in writing
upon a form provided for this purpose.
Sec. 8-13. Impounding unregistered bicycles.
The chief of police shall cause the impounding of
unregistered bicycles and shall retain possession
of such bicycles until satisfactory proof of
ownership is received. Upon receipt of this proof
of ownership, and evidence of payment of the regis-
tration fee, a permanent registration plate shall
be affixed to the bicycle.
"Sec. 8-14. Duty of Rental Agencies.
A rental agency shall not rent or offer any bicycle
for rent unless the bicycle is registered and a
registration plate is attached thereto as provided
in this article, and such bicycle is equipped with
the equipment required for operation by the pro-
visions of this chapter and other ordinances of the
city.

"Sec. 8-15. Responsibility of parent. 1 0 1
If the person subject to the requirements of this
Article II is a minor, the duties herein imposed shall
be performed by his parent or guardian."
SECTION 3: All ordinances or parts of ordinances
in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed.
SECTION 4: Any person, firm, or corporation
violating the terms of this ordi-
nance shall be fined not more than $25.00 for each such offense.
SECTION 5: This ordinance shall be in full force
and effect from and after its passage,
approval and publication in the manner provided by law.
