HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-1973-033-O-73Amended 33-0-73 iAN ORDINANCE Amending Chapter 21 of the Code of the City of Evanston, 1957, as amended BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: That Chapter 21, Article I, Section 21-10 of the Code of the City of Evanston, 1957, be amended by adding thereto the following sentence: "The word 'receptacle' as used in this Article shall include, but is not limited to strong plastic bags, which shall be reasonably tearproof, airtight and watertight and which are securely tied closed at the opening thereof." SECTION 2: That Chapter 21, Article I, Section 21-11 is be amended so that said section shall read as follows: "The receptacles for garbage, as prescribed in this Article, shall be watertight, made of sturdy material with a close -fitting cover, or strong plastic bags, which shall be reasonably tearproof, airtight and water- tight and which are securely tied closed at the opening thereof. Such receptacles should have a capacity of not to exceed 26 gallons and sufficient numbers shall be provided to take care of all waste for a period of at least seven days." SECTION 3: That Chapter 21, Article I, Section 21-17 be amended so that said section shall read as follows: "Grass clippings from lawns or other places shall be placed in suitable baskets, boxes or strong plastic bags, which shall be reasonably tearproof, airtight and watertight and which are securely tied closed at the opening thereof and left at or near the place, specified for containers.." 35G • is -2- SECTION 4: That the second paragraph of Chapter 21, Article I, Section 21-18, be amended so that said subparagraph shall read as follows: "All garbage shall be placed in proper receptacles which shall be practically airtight and watertight, or strong plastic bags which shall be reasonably tearproof, air- tight and watertight and which are securely tied closed at the opening thereof, and which shall be removed daily from such buildings and premises, or portions thereof; provided, further, that this section shall not apply to any apartment house or flat building containing less than five flats." SECTION 5: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed. SECTION 6: That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, ap- proval and publication in the manner provided by law.
