Sept. 24, 1973 Sept. 28, 1973 Oct. 15, 1973 ME BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: That Chapter 10 of the Code of the City of Evanston, 1957, as amended, is hereby amended by adding Article V to read as follows: "ARTICLE V. ELECTRICAL CODE. Section 10-25 --- Adoption National Electrical Code, 1971 Edition, and Amendments thereto. Pursuant to authority granted by the Illinois Revised Statutes, 1971, Division 3 of Article 1 of Chapter 24, the City, hereby adopts by reference as criteria for'the issuance of construction, reconstruction', alteration or installation permits, the provisions of the National Electrical Code, 1971 Edition, Sections 90-1 to 820-10 and Chapter 9A, "Tables", inclusive,pro- vided that: 1. Section 422-24 is hereby amended and shall hereafter read as follows: "Section 422-24 Unit Switches as Disconnecting Means. a) Unit switches which are a part of an appliance shall not be considered as -taking the place of the disconnecting means required -2- (2) Two -Family Dwellings. •In two-family dwellings, the disconnecting means may be outside the apartment in which the appliance is installed. This will permit an individual switch for the apartment to be used. (3) Single-Family'Dwellings. In single-family dwellingsi the service disconnecting means may be used. (4) Other Occupancies. In other occupancies, the branch -circuit switch or circuit breaker., where readily accessible to the user of the appliance, may be used for this purpose. b) A dishwasher shall have a disconnect switch installed under the kitchen sink. A disposal without a unit switch shall have a switch installed in the wall or under the sink.. Any changes from the provisions of this section (b) shall be approved by the Director of Inspections and Permits of.the City of Evanston." 2. That Section 410.8, paragraph a. be amended and shall hereafter read: a) A fixture shall be installed in every clothes closet having a floor area of 8 square feet or larger and shall be: -installed: • in accordance with this section. 3. Any reference ifs the National Electrical Code, 1971 Edition, to "Administrative Authority" shall be read as meaning the "Director of Inspections and Permits of the City of Evanston"; and 4. Any permit issued by the Director of Inspections and Permits -.shall become invalid if the authorized work is suspended or abandoned for a period of six months after • the time of commencing the work, or not commenced within six -months after the issuance of any permit; and -3- ,r S.' Permit Fees. Fees for electrical constructions, 'reconstructions, alterations or.installations as required by the National Electrical Code '.1971 Edition, shall be those established from time to time'by ordinance of the City Council of the City of Evanston. Section 10-26---Application--Copies Filed--Severability: 'The regulations of the National Electrical Code, 1971 Edition, shall apply to all matters concerning the construction, reconstruction, alteration or installation of all electrical wiring apparatus, fixtures, machinery or devices, and their service equipment, and shall apply to all existing or proposed buildings and structures in the City of Evanston. Three copies of the National Electrical Code, 1971 Editions, adopted by reference in Section 10-21 of this Code, shall be filed in the office of the City Clerk, and there kept available for public use, inspection, and examination, at least 15 days. prior to the adoption thereof by this ordinance. • The intention of the City Council is hereby expressed that the provisions of this ordinance are severable and that the invalidity of any section hereof or any portion of any section hereof shall not affect any other section or portion of section of this ordinance. Section 10-27 --- Penalty for Violations: Any person who shall violate any provision of the National Electrical Code, 1971 Edition, or who shall fail to comply with any of the requirements thereof, or who shall change, move or alter any wiring apparatus, fixture, machinery or device, in ®.1)0 -4- violation of any approved plan or direction of the Director of Inspections and Permits or of any permit or certificate issued under the provisions of the National Electrical Code, 1971 Edition, shall be guilty of an offense, punishable by a • fine of not less than twenty-five dollars nor more than five hundred dollars. Each day that a violation continues shall be deemed a separate offense." SECTION 2: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the pro- visions of this ordinance are hereby repealed. SECTION 3: That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval and publication in.the manner provided by law.
