HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-1974-022-O-74• 157 22-0-74 AN ORDINANCE Combining Certain Funds and Levies WHEREAS, the City of Evanston has heretofore maintained separate funds and has provided for the levying of separate taxes for certain purposes as set forth under the statutes of the State of Illinois, and WHEREAS, by virtue of Section 6 of Article VII of the 1970 constitution, the City of Evanston became a home rule unit and was thereby given authority to levy and collect taxes without specific statutory requirements, and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that pursuant to the grant of home rule power under said 1970 constitution, it is in the best interests of the City of Evanston to combine and con- solidate certain separate funds and tax levies into the corporate funds and tax levy in order to simplify and consolidate the fiscal affairs of the City. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Evanston, Cook County, Illinois: SECTION 1: That the following designated funds heretofore maintained as separate funds, to wit; (a) Police Protection Fund (b) Fire Protection Fund (c) Small Parks Fund (d) Street and Bridge Fund (e) Garbage Fund be and they are hereby consolidated into the corporate fund and the individual tax levies for each fund shall be combined and ' f i 22-0-74 -2- consolidated with the corporate fund tax levy. That this consolidation and combination shall be effective for 1974 appropriation and tax levy ordinances and for all succeeding appropriation and tax levy ordinances unless or until this ordinance is amended in the manner provided by law. SECTION 2: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law. Introduced March 4 1974 . Adopted.
