HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-1974-101-O-74• � ` 6 k IU1-0-74 AN ORDINANCE °. 4 6 Amending the Fair Housing Ordinance of the City of Evanston BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: Section 25-1/2-6 of the Code of the City of Evanston, 1957, is hereby amended by adding thereto the following paragraphs: "(k) Discriminatory Promotion of Sales or Rentals. Encourage or discourage the sale or rental of real property because of the race, color, religion, sex, marital status, presence or age of children, or national origin of persons in the neighborhood in which the property is located. This shall include but is not limited to steering or directing persons into or away from areas because of the race, color, religion, sex, marital status, presence or age of children, or national origin of persons in the area or purported to be moving into the area." "(1) Differential Treatment. Make any differential treatment toward any prospective seller, pur- chaser, or tenant because of that person's race, color, religion, sex, marital status, presence or age of children or national origin, or toward any prospective seller, purchaser or tenant because of the race, color, religion, sex, marital status or national origin of the persons in the area in which that property is located." SECTION 2: Section 25-1/2-10 of the Code of the City of Evanston, 1957, is hereby amended by adding thereto the following paragraph: "(q) To encourage or discourage the sale or rental of real property be- cause of the race, color, religion, sex, marital status, presence or age of children, or national origin of persons in the neighborhood in which the property is located. SECTION 3: Section 25-1/2-17 of the Code of the City of Evanston, 1957, is amended by striking the second, third and fourth sentences of the tenth paragraph of said Section and inserting in lieu thereof the follow- ing: "Any broker or manager whose license has been suspended or revoked or who has been fined, or any Complainant aggrieved by -the decision of the Board, shall have full right to appeal from such order or finding by any appropriate action in law or equity in any court of competent jurisdic- tion; provided, however, that the order of the Board shall become final if no appropriate action for judicial review is taken within thirty (30) days after the issuance of said order." SECTION 4: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval, and publication in the manner provided by law.
