AN ORDINANCE
Amending Section 2-137 Of The
Evanston City Code Relating To The
Creation And Operation Generally Of
The Civil Service Commission
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Evanston has determined that
the requirements relating to the discipline of certain City employees, includ-
ing suspensions and dismissals, as provided in "an Act to regulate the Civil
Service of Cities" are no longer in the best interests of the City of Evanston
and the employees of the City of Evanston; and
• WHEREAS, the City of Evanston is a home rule municipality under the
terms of the constitution of the State of Illinois, 1970, and as such is
authorized by the constitution to enact legislation governing its own govern-
ment and affairs, including the manner of discipline and dismissal of certain
employees; and
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston is presently operating under the pro-
visions of "an Act to regulate the Civil Service of Cities" which statute can
be modified by home rule municipalities;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLI140IS:
SECTIO14 1: That Section 2-137 of the Code of the City of Evanston
• is amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 2-137. Creation; Operation Generally.
There is hereby created and established a Civil Service Com-
mission for the City which shall operate in all respects as pro-
vided under the provisions of Chapter 24, subsections 10-1-1

through 10-1-48 of the Illinois Revised Statutes of 1975, as
amended. The provisions of said statute shall not apply, however,
to the manner of suspending or dismissing the following employees
of the City of Evanston to wit:
Animal Control Warden
Auto Body Repairman
Automotive Mechanic I
Automotive Mechanic II
Automotive Mechanic Leader
Automotive Parts Clerk
Automotive Serviceman
Building Custodian
Custodian
Electrician
Equipment Operator I
Equipment Operator II
Forestry Leader
Gardener
General Tradesman
Maintenance Mechanic I
Maintenance Mechanic II
Park Ranger
Parking Meter Collector
Parking Meter Repairman
Public Works Crew Chief
Public Works Maint. Worker I
Public Works Maint. Worker II
Sanitation Driver
Sanitation Loader
Traffic Sign Repairman
Tree Trimmer
Truck Driver
Utility Service Mechanic
Water Maintenance Worker I
Water Maintenance Worker II
Water Meter Reader
Water Meter Repairman
Water Meter Serviceman
Water Plant Operator"
SECTION 2: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict here-
with are hereby repealed.
SECTION 3: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
and after its passage, approval, and publication in the
manner provided by law.
