HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-1979-017-O-793/8/79 • f , 17-0-79 AN ORDINANCE i Establishing Responsibilities Upon The Abandonment Of A Sewer Service Connection BE IT ORDAINED BY TI4E CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: That the Code of the City of Evanston, 1957, as amended, be and hereby is further amended by adding to Chapter 47 thereof Sections 41 through 42 in a new Article III entitled "Sewer Service and Connections", which shall read as follows: • "ARTICLE III SEWER SERVICE AND CONNECTIONS "Sec. 47-41. Installation and connection of wasteline service to public sewer. Every person desiring to connect a building wasteline to the public sewer shall, at his own cost and expense, in- stall such waste drain from the point of said tap into the public sewer to the end of the building wasteline. It shall be the responsibility of a person utilizing the public sewer to maintain the building wasteline connection at its ,juncture with the public sewer and the pipe from the juncture to the point of the building drain. Such maintenance shall include keeping said wasteline clean and free flowing, and the re- pair or replacement thereof in the event of broken or defec- tive tie-ups. Repair or replacement of the waste tile shall be to the specifications established by the Plumbing Code of the City of Evanston, and shall be inspected by the plumbing inspector prior to backfilling. "Sec. 47-42. Abandonment of sewer connection. • Prior to the abandonment or permanent disuse of a presently existing sewer connection, the owner of the proper- ty served by said sewer connection shall make application to the Department of Inspections and Permits in writing for a permit to abandon said connection. Upon the receipt and ap- proval of said application, and upon the payment of a fee of TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS ($25.00) the Director of Inspections and I � � M 17-0-79 • Permits shall issue a permit for said abandonment and clos- ing. Upon issuance of the permit aforesaid the property owner shall locate, remove and seal off the existing sewer connection in the parkway and restore the parkway surface to its pre-existing condition. Prior to the closure of any excavation to facilitate the sealing of a presently exist- ing sewer connection the owner or contractor shall notify the Department of Inspections and Permits and an inspection of said sealed connection shall be conducted prior to back - filling." SECTION 2: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict here- with are hereby repealed.
