AN ORDINANCE I Restricting The Transportation, Possession And Consumption Of Alcoholic Beverages On Public Property 7/13/79 7/24/79 WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council of the City of Evanston to promote a safe and peaceful enjoyment of its public ways and lands; and II{ WHEREAS, said peaceful and safe enjoyment requires an accommodation !! and control of the use of alcoholic beverages; 'I • wi NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE.CITY OF li EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: That Section 29-67 of the Code of the City of Evanston, 1957, as amended, be and hereby is further amended to read as follows: "Section 29-67, Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages on Public Property. Except as otherwise provided below, no person shall, within the corporate boundaries of the City of Evanston: A. Transport any alcoholic beverage within the passenger area of any motor vehicle except in the original container and with the seal unbroken. B. Consume or have on his person open containers of alcoholic beverages in or on any part of any motor vehicle. C. Consume or have on his person or in or about personal prop- erty open .containers of alcoholic beverages in public buildings, parks, beaches, highways, streets, alleys, side- walks, parkways, and public parking lots, except that be- tween the hours of 10:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M. possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages shall be permitted in the following public park locations: E 58-0-79 Butler -Isabella, Canal Lands (A and B), Centennial, Clark Square, Crown, Dawes, Elliott; James, Ladd Arboretum, Leahy, Lovelace and Mason throughout said parks except for a distance of 50 feet in from the edge of streets, alleys, and public parking lots, and except for childrens' playground equipment, and for a distance of 25 feet surrounding childrens' play- ground equipment within those parks. This Section shall not be construed to prohibit the possession 1 or consumption of alcoholic beverages within public buildings, on streets, alleys, sidewalks, parkways and public parking lots in con- junction with an authorized event where such event and use of said ! alcoholic beverages has been disclosed in writing to, and authorized i by, the City Manager." i SECTION 2: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict here- with are hereby repealed.
