HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-1979-060-O-790� • • 60-0-.79 AN ORDINANCE Regulating Taxicabs And Other Vehicles For Hire BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1:. That Chapter 43 of the Code of the City of Evanston, 1957, as amended, be further amended so that Sections 43-25, 43-26, 43-33, 43-36, 43-51, and 43-53 shall hereafter read as follows: "Sec. 43-25. License and Information to be Displayed. The public passenger vehicle driver's license must be dis- played on the rear front seat at all times in the public passenger vehicle in plain view of the passenger. The license shall have a picture of the licensee affixed to it, and the following descrip- tive information: name, address, height, weight, age, eye and hair color. In addition, the following.information will be dis- played in the rear passenger compartment in plain view of the passenger: schedule of rates and charges, telephone number where complaints can be received, a list of communities where straight meter rates apply, the cab number, the name of the owner of the cab, and the name of the association to which the cab belongs. "Sec. 43-26. Revocation' of License - Grounds - Hearing. If following the issuance of a public passenger vehicle license such licensee shall be determined to no longer meet the qualifications or shall be found in violation of any provisions of this Chapter, including but not limited to Sec. 43-40 requir- ing participation in the Senior Citizen/Ambulatory Handicapped Taxicab Program, the City Manager may suspend or revoke such pub- lic passenger vehicle license. Any person licensed pursuant to this Article who is aggrieved by the provisions of this Section may, upon written request, obtain a hearing by the City Manager or his designee, at which hearing lie may present evidence in his own behalf. The City Manager shall promptly advise the licensee of his findings and decision thereon in writing. • 60-0-79 "Sec. 43-33. License and Information to be Displayed. The following schedule of rates and charges which is hereby declared to be just and,reasonable, computable according to the number of passengers, the distance travelled, and the time con- sumed as indicated by the taximeter installed in each taxicab shall be effective: 70 cents for the first one -quarter mile or fraction thereof; 20 cents for each additional one -quarter mile; 25 cents for each additional passenger; 10 cents for each three-quarter minute of waiting time. B. The fixed rate for a ride for persons registered to partici- pate in the Senior Citizen/Ambulatory Handicapped Taxicab Program shall be $2.00. Eligible riders must be Evanston residents of 60 years of age or older, or those who are ambulatory handicapped. Rides may be taken only within the corporate boundaries of the City, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. "Sec. 43-53. Where Meter Rates Apply. The meter rates and charges set forth in Sec. 43-51 shall apply to all trips within the City of Evanston and all trips be- tween the City of Evanston and Wilmette, Kenilworth, Skokie, -2- r• • 60-,0-79 Lincolnwood, Chicago (north of Roosevelt Road) and the unincor- porated areas falling within the perimeters established by such municipal boundaries. For the transport of passengers between the City of Evanston and destinations beyond the perimeter of the municipal boundar- ies listed above, a maximum charge not to exceed one hundred fifty percent (150%) of the actual metered rate may be imposed."
