HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-1982-121-O-82• 11/11/82 11/17/82 121-0-82 Participating in the Illinois'Fire Protection Training Act (Amending Title 9 Chapter 2) WHEREAS, the City of Evanston is desirous of electing to partici- pate in the programs under the Illinois Fire Protection Training Act, as amended; and WHEREAS, in order for the City of Evanston to be eligible for initial or continued participation in the programs, the law requires that before an individual may commence regular employment as a firefighter, he j must have been certified by .the State Fire Marshall as having successfully completed an approved Firefighter II training course; and WHEREAS, the City of Evanston intends to establish its own school or to utilize some other school certified by the State Fire Marshal • for.the purpose of providing the training required under said Act: ! • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: That Title 9, Chapter 2, Section 21 of the City Code I i of the City of Evanston as amended, is hereby amended I to read as follows: i i 9-2-21 The City hereby elects to participate in the programs provided for in the Illinois Fire Protection Training Act. j A. Before an indi-vidual may commence regular full-time employment as a firefighter, he must have been certified by the Illinois State Fire Marshall as a Firefighter II, as having successfully completed an approved training course as provided in said Act. i B. The Firefighter II training must be completed by the trainee within his probationary period of twelve (12) months, except for volunteers, part-time and paid -on -call personnel. C. The Civil Service Commissioners are hereby instructed and directed to make the necessary amendments to the Personnel Rules, the Manual of the Evanston Fire Department and Rules of said Civil Service Commissioners in order to require that any person appointed to the Fire Department of the City of Evanston shall not become a regular member of the Evanston Fire -Department unless and until he shall have completed, pursuant to said Illinois Fire Protection and Training Act, the approved training course within twelve (12) months of the date of his initial employment. { 121-0-82 SECTION 2: That Title 9, Chapter 2 of the'City Code of the City of Evanston, is as amended is further amended by adding the following section 22. 9-2-22 Penalty: Any person violating any provision of this Chapter shall be subject to the penalties of Section F 105.5.1 of the Fire Prevention Code of the City. SECTION 3: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby,repealed. SECTION 4: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval, and publica- tion in the manner provided by law.
