AN ORDINANCE
Amending Section 6-4-5 of the
Zoning Ordinance Establishing
A Mechanism for Tent Permits
WHEREAS, the Zoning Amendment Committee conducted public hearings on
July 21, 1983, August 4, 1983 and August 18, 1983, upon reference by the
vanston City Council to consider amending the Zoning Ordinance to provide a
nechanism to allow for the issuance of tent permits; said public hearings
laving been conducted pursuant to notice and publication thereof in the manner
)rescribed by law; and
WHEREAS, the Zoning Amendment Committee has recommended that Section
5-4-5 of the Zoning Ordinance be amended.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
:VANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1: That Section 6-4-5 of the Evanston Zoning Ordinance, as
amended, be and hereby is further amended to read as
follows:
6-4-5 USES AND STRUCTURES PERMITTED IN ALL DISTRICTS
(A) The following public utility uses are permitted in all districts:
poles, wires, cables, conduits, vaults, laterals, pipes, mains',
valves or any other similar distributing equipment; provided that
installation shall conform with rules and regulations of the
applicable administrative authorities.
(B) Any governmental or proprietary function owned or operated by a
municipality is a permitted use in any district, but such use must
conform with other requirements herein set forth for the district
in which it is located. Notwithstanding Section 6-4-8(E),
elevated municipal water storage facilities may be erected to a
maximum height of one hundred thirty three feet (133') in M3
Restricted Manufacturing Districts.
(C) Tents used for a permitted or special use in the underlying zoning
district may be erected on a temporary basis, normally not to
exceed seven (7) days, pursuant to a permit that may be issued
upon written application to the City Manager. The City Manager,
in connection with the issue of any such temporary tent permit,
may establish any conditions upon the duration and use of the
text that are necessary to promote the public health, safety,
comfort, morals, convenience, general welfare and the objectives
and policies of the Zoning Ordinance, Comprehensive General Plan
and any other applicable code and ordinance.

Tents used for any use that is not a permitted or special use in the
underlying zoning district may be erected on a temporary basis,

by the City.Council. The City Manager or City Council in connection
with the issuance of any such temporary tent permit may establish
any conditipns upon the duration and use of the tent that are
necessary to promote the public health, safety, comfort, morals,
convenience, general welfare, objectives and policies of the
Zoning Ordinance, Comprehensive General Plan and any other applicable

SECTION 2: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby repealed.

SECTION 3: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage, approval and publication in the manner
(provided by law.
