AN ORDINANCE
Amending Sections 6-3-4(B) and 6-9-2-8(A)l
of the -Evanston Zoning Ordinance
Pertaining to Residential Parking Setbacks
WHEREAS, the Evanston Zoning -Amendment Committee
conducted a public hearing on July 11, 1985 on proposed
amendments to Sections 6-3-4(B) and 6-9-2-8(A)l, said public j
hearings having been conducted pursuant to notice and
publication thereof in the manner provided by law; and
WHEREAS, the Zoning Amendment Committee has
recommended, based on evidence presented at the public hearing,
findings of fact, consideration of existing conditions,
conservation of property values and the direction of building
development to the best advantage of the entire City, that the
Evanston Zoning Ordinance be amended; and
• WHEREAS, the Zoning Amendment Committee has

recommended that such amendment be made-;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS.:
SECTION 1: That Section 6-3-4(B) of the Evanston
Zoning Ordinance, adopted November 21,
1960, as amended, be and hereby is further amended to read as
follows:
(B) No accessory building, unless it is structurally a
part of the principal building or unless it conforms 1
with the required conditions for accessory building
for authorized special uses, shall be erected or
altered at, nor be moved to, a location within ten
feet (10') of the nearest wall of the principal
building, nor within the required front or side yards �
on the lot. In residence districts, an accessory
building for other than parking purposes in a rear .or I
side yard shall be not less than three feet (3') from
any property line. In residence districts, accessory
buildings.used solely for required off-street parking
• purposes shall be located a minimum of two feet (2')
from the alley lot line across which access is
provided. In any district other than a residence
district, accessory buildings used for required
off-street parking purposes shall be located not less

than five. feet ( 5' ) from the alley lot line, across
which access is provided.
SECTION 2: That Section 6-9-2-8(A)l be and is
further amended to read as follows:
6-9-2-8: PARKING AREA SIZE AND ACCESS:
(A) Each required parking space shall be open directly
upon an aisle, a driveway or public alley of such
width and design as to provide safe and efficient
means of vehicular access to such parking spaces at
all times, as shown in the Stall and Aisle (Module)
dimensions tables contained in this Section.

+ EXCEPTIONS: In residence districts only,
notwithstanding the above.minimum aisle and module
requirements:
a. Non -parallel parking stalls (those with a parking
stall angle which exceeds 0°) for which an abutting alley
serves as a portion of an aisle need only be located with
a minimum aisle width (which may be partially comprised of
driveways or public alleys) of thirteen feet (13'),
provided that the applicationof said thirteen foot (131)
minimum aisle width shall not result in a minimum parking
stall setback from the alley lot line across which access
to the stall is obtained, of less than two feet (2') nor
more than five feet (5').
b. Parallel parking stalls (those with a 00 parking
stall angle) for which an abutting alley serves as a
portion of an aisle need only be located a minimum of two
feet (2') from the alley lot line across which access to
the stall is obtained.
SECTION 3: All ordinances or parts of ordinances
in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4: This ordinance shall be in full force
and effect from and after its passage,.
