AN ORDINANCE
i
Amending Section 6-9-2-8 of the
City Code of .the.City of Evanston, 1979, as Amended
i WHEREAS, the Zoning Amendment Committee of the City of Evanston
received the petition of Banbury Development, Inc. to amend the Evanston
i Zoning Ordinance to amend Section 6-9-2-8 and any related provisions of the
Evanston Zoning Ordinance to revise the minimum parking stall and aisle
! dimensions contained therein; and
WHEREAS, the Zoning Amendment Committee conducted public hearings
on March 20, 1986 and April 17, 1986 to consider said amendment to the
Evanston Zoning Ordinance pursuant to notice and publication in the manner
prescribed by law; and
i WHEREAS, the Zoning Amendment Committee has recommended, based on
i evidence presented at said public hearing., findings of fact, consideration of
i
existing conditions, conservation of property values and the direction of
I
building development to the best advantage of the entire city, that the
Evanston Zoning Ordinance be amended;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF

I' SECTION 1: That Section 6-9-2-8 PARKING AREA SIZE AND ACCESS,
i
! of the City Code of the City of Evanston, 1979, as amended, be and is further
amended to read as follows:
6-9-2-8: PARKING AREA SIZE AND ACCESS:
I (A) Each required parking space shall open directly upon an aisle,
a driveway or public alley of such width and design as to provide
safe and efficient means of vehicular access to such parking
spaces at all times, as shown in the Minimum Stall and Aisle
(Module) Dimensions table contained in this Section.

+EXCEPTIONS: In residence districts only, notwithstanding the
(s above minimum aisle and module requirements:

1. Nonparallel parking stalls (those with a parking stall angle
which exceeds Oo)for which an abutting alley serves as a
portion of an aisle need only be located with a minimum aisle
(which may be partially comprised of driveways or public alleys)
of thirteen feet (13'), provided that the application of said
thirteen foot'(13') minimum aisle width shall not result in a
minimum parking stall setback from the alley lot line across
which access to the stall is obtained, of less than two feet (2');
nor more than five feet W ).
2. Parallel parking stalls (those with a Oo parking stall
angle) for which an abutting alley serves as a portion of an
aisle need only be located a minimum.of two feet (2'). from the
alley lot line across which access to the stall is obtained.

(B) A1.1 off-street parking spaces shall be provided with appropriate
means of vehicular access to a street or alley. Driveways to
such parking spaces across public property shall be designed and
constructed in accordance with Section 7-3-8 of the City Code and
in accordance with the relevant goals of the City as set forth in
the Comprehensive Plan. 1
(C) Required parking for stall angles other than those contained in
the above table may be interpolated from said table.
(D) All required parking spaces shall be marked to provide a
delineation between parking stalls and aisles.
(E) Parking spaces for the physically handicapped shall be designed
and provided in accordance with applicable standards.
SECTION 2: All ordinances, or parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith,are hereby repealed.
SECTION 3: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage, approval. and publication
in the manner provided by law.
