HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCES-1989-008-O-898-0-89 AN ORDINANCE Amending Section 1-5-9 of the City Code of the City of Evanston, of 1979, as Amended WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Evanston in • review of Aldermanic compensation has determined that -Compensation to members of Evanston's City Council is in the nature of an honorarium and should not be viewed as a salary for a part-time job. -The amount of salary should not be tied to the size of the City budget. -The level of compensation should be such that expenses incurred by serving as an Alderman are covered by the compensation so that no one is deterred from running_ for office. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: That Section 1-5-9 of the City Code of the City of Evanston of 1979, as Amended, be amended to read as follows: 1-5-9: COMPENSATION - The compensation to be paid to Aldermen for their services is hereby fixed at four thousand two hundred and thirty dollars ($4,230.00) per annum, payable in twelve (12) monthly installments. • This rate of compensation shall be effective on and after the first regularly scheduled meeting at which Aldermen elected in April, 1991 tape office, at which time all Aldermen qualified to hold such office shall receive the four thousand, two hundred and thirty dollars ($4,230.00) annual compensation. An Alderman duly elected and serving as acting mayor shall also receive the mayor's salary for the period of time he or she so serves. No compensation shall be paid to any City officer or employee in addition to that provided i.n the ordinance fixing his salary. The Aldermanic compensation structure shall be reviewed by a non-aldermanic committee every four years, which committee shall submit a report and recommendation to the City Council no later than ninety (90) days prior to the next regularly scheduled municipal election. SECTION 2: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. 0 .. 1-5-89- • • • 8-0-89 SECTION 3: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval, and publication in the manner provided by law.
