AN ORDINANCE
Granting Variations from the Use Regulations
at 500 Sherman Avenue
WHEREAS, the Evanston Zoning Board of Appeals conducted
a public hearing on May 16, 1989, upon the application of Peter
Papadopoulous, Joan Papadopoulous, Polikarpos Papaioannou and
Panagiota Papaioannou, as beneficiaries, under the American
National Bank, Trust Company of Chicago, Trust No. 104318-07 for
variations from the use and non -conforming building and use
regulations of the Zoning Ordinance to permit expansion of the
fifth dwelling unit located on the south side of the basement
into the northern portion of the basement on property located in
an R1 Single-family Residence District; said public hearing
having been conducted pursuant to notice and publication thereof
in the manner prescribed by law; and
WHEREAS, the Zoning Board of Appeals has recommended
that the application for said variations be granted;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
• THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1: That, based upon the evidence and
testimony presented at the hearing, and
upon deliberations and findings of fact contained in the
transcript of the Zoning Board of Appeals Case No.
89-8-V(R) the application of Peter Papadopoulous, Joan
Papadopoulous, Polikarpos Papaioannou and Panagiota Papaioannou,
as beneficiaries, under the American National Bank, Trust
Company of Chicago, Trust No. 104318-07 for variations from the
use and non -conforming building and use regulations of the
Zoning Ordinance to permit expansion of the fifth dwelling unit
located on the south side of the basement into the northern
portion of the basement on property located at 500 Sherman,
Evanston, Illinois and legally described as follows:
Lot "A" in Netherey and Winzenburg Resubdivision of Lots 17
and 18 in Block 2 in Iglehart"s Addition to Evanston, in
Sections 19 & 30, Township 41 North, Range 14, East of the
Third Principal Meridian, in Cook County, Illinois.
is granted, subject,to compliance with all other provisions of

the Zoning Ordinance, other applicable laws and the following
conditions:
1. The proposed remodeling shall be in substantial
compliance with the testimony presented and the plans
placed on file, except that said remodeling shall include
removal of those portions of the walls as indicated on
Board's exhibit #1;
2. No kitchen equipment shall be installed nor shall any
culinary equipment be kept in the area of the expanded
dwelling unit to the north of the hallway stairs; and
3. The applicant shall have an architect verify that the
proposed area of expansion complies with all the current
building codes and all other codes applicable to the
construction which had been done without benefit of
permits, and said architect shall also make application
for permits to the City for the construction work
previously done and for the remodeling to expand the
basement dwelling unit into the subject area.
SECTION 2: All ordinances or parts of ordinances
in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
SECTION 3: This ordinance shall be in full force
and effect form and after its passage,
approval and publication in the manner provided by law.
