HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1971-004-R-71� t• Revised 1-11-71 4-R-71 RESOLUTION Opposing Preliminary Draft of Zoning Laws Study Commission 3.1 WHEREAS, the Zoning Laws Study Commission has released its preliminary draft of a proposed Illinois Land Resources Zoning Code, dated November 5, 1970; and WHEREAS, said proposed Zoning Code marks a substantial departure from well established zoning principles in the State of Illinois; and WHEREAS, the Zoning Laws Study Commission has solicited the comments and views of municipal officers and other interested persons; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Evanston has concluded that the adoption of the proposed Illinois Land Resources Zoning Code, in its present form, would be highly detrimental and would constitute an erosion of local zoning authority: 0 3 , 1 { NO'N, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Evanston, Cook County, Illinois: SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Evanston does hereby oppose the adoption of the proposed Illinois Land Resources Zoning Code prepared for the State of Illinois Zoning Laws Study Commission, dated November 5, 1970, in its present form and urges said Zoning Laws Study Commission to re-evaluate its position in regard to the substance of said Zoning Code so as to improve the quality of zoning'administration in Illinois and preserve the rights of local communities in the adoption and enforcement of zoning • ordinance. SECTION 2: That the General Assembly of the State C of Illinois, be and it is hereby memorialized to reject the Illinois Land Resources Zoning Code prepared for the State of Illinois Zoning Laws Study Commission, if. said Illinois Land Resources Zoning Code should be presented to the General Assembly for adoption. SECTION 3: The City Manager and the Corporation Counsel of the City of Evanston are hereby directed to take all necessary and appropriate steps to oppose the adoption of the proposed Illinois Land Resources Zoning Code by the General Assembly of the State of Illinois, and to take all steps approp- riate to consult with said Zoning Laws Study Commission in the interest of improving zoning administration throughout the State of • 31,.2 Illinois consistent with the preservation of home rule powers as granted by the Illinois Constitution of 1970. SECTION 4: The City Clerk of the City of Evanston is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution to the Honorable Eugene F. Schlickman, Chairman, Zoning Laws Study Commission, and the members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois and the Senate of the State of Illinois from this District.
