HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1971-056-R-7156-R-71 RESOLUTION Upon the Occasion of the Death of JUDGE -HARRY H. PORTER WHEREAS, JUDGE HARRY H. PORTER departed this life on November 23, 1971; and • WHEREAS, JUDGE HARRY H..PORTER was an outstanding citizen of Evanston for -.over fifty years; and WHEREAS, he was elected Chief Judge of the Municipal Court of Evanston in 1932.and was. re-elected to this position in 1933, 1939, 1945, 1951, and 1957; and WHEREAS, he was made an Associate Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County in 1962 and a Full Judge in.1970; and. WHEREAS, he served as Chairman of the Committee on Alcohol and Drugs for the National Safety Council; as a member of the Cook County Traffic Safety Committee; and twice as a delegate to the President's Highway Safety Council; and WHEREAS, he has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Evanston Young Men's Christian Association as well as many other civic associations; and • WHEREAS, Evanston citizens deeply appreciate his interest in serving all citizens, having given most liberally of his time, energy, and ability; and t • • WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council of the City .of Evanston to pay tribute to JUDGE HARRY H. PORTER; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the City.Council of the City of Evanston on behalf of ourselves, the Mayor, the City Manager, the officials, and all citizens of this community that we express our profound regret on the .oc.casion.of the death of JUDGE HARRY H. PORTER and tender to the bereaved members of his family our heartfelt sympathy;. and BE.IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be made a part of the permanent records of the City and that a suitable copy thereof, signed by the Mayor and attested by the City Clerk be sent to the members of the bereaved family.
