RESOLUTION
13-R-72
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston had fallen behind in its payments
to the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund; and
WHEREAS, the City Council, in order to minimize the interest
cost to Evanston taxpayers of continuing to spread the payment of this
amount over several years, has elected to raise taxes sufficiently in
1972 to pay the amount in one year thereby saving from $70,000 to
$140,060 in interest costs; and
WHEREAS, an increase in the tax levy for 1972 of approximately
• $600,000 was made for this purpose; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to go on.record with its citizens
that the'tax levy for 1972 will not set a precedent for the size of the
levy in 1973-
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that in considering the tax levy
for 1973, increases or decreases in expenses will be measured from a
level equal to the 1972 levy less the approximately $600,000 necessary
for the IMRF payment.
