HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1973-062-R-73Adopted Oct. 1, 1973 Revised Oct. 1, 1973 RESOLUTION 62-R-73 WHEREAS, there is pending in the Illinois General Assembly legislation to simplify and modernize the law gpverning relations between landlords and tenants; and WHEREAS, according to the 1970 census 58% of all housing units in the City are rental units; and WHEREAS, the combination of Evanston's very low vacancy rate, high rents, and aging housing stock creates a potential for housing problems; and • WHEREAS, the Mayor has identified property standards as a major area of concern and created a Property Standards Committee; and WHEREAS, one charge to this Committee is to deal with tenant - landlord obligations: THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Evanston, in order to encourage both tenants and landlords to maintain and im- pr6ve the quality of rental housing, urges the State Legislature to create a more equitable relationship between -landlords and tenants clearly stating the rights, responsibilities and remedies of each group and the city indicate this by testifying at the hearing on October 5, 1973 at the State of Illinois Building, 160 N.
