HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1973-054-R-73�% : RESOLUTION 54-R-73 W WHEREAS, the City of Evanston pays regular dues to and is repre- sented on the Board of Trustees of the North Suburban Mass Transit District f"District"); and WHEREAS, the District has filed applications for capital improve- ment grants with the Urban Mass Transportation Administration, U.S. Depart - went of Transportation and with the Office of Mass Transportation, State of Illinois, which applications relate in part to capital equipment and prop- erty to be used to conduct a portion of the transit bus operations hereto- fore conducted by the Evanston Bus Company; and • . WHEREAS, the City of Evanston has determined pursuant to Federal regulations that it will be necessary to evidence that the City of Evanston shall support and underwrite an appropriate portion of the 5-year operating costs of such transit bus operation in order that the District can complete such applications for Federal and State funding assistance and obtain from the Urban Mass Transportation Administration, U. S. Department of Transpor- tation a letter stating that financial commitments made by the District shall not prejudice its Federal grant application; and WHEREAS, the City of Evanston has determined that it would be appropriate and desirable for it to provide for an equitable sharing of the anticipated operating deficits to be incurred by the transit bus opera- tion; and- •' • 9 -2- 0 WHEREAS, to qualify for the aforesaid Federal and State funding, theapplications filed by the District must be accompanied by an assurance that the City of Evanston has made monies available for a 1-year period and has declared its intention to provide a portion of the estimated deficits to be incurred by the transit bus operations for a period of five (5) years: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Evanston hereby guarantees that it shall make available during the 12-month period beginning September 1, 1973 an amount not -to exceed Three Hundred Thousand Dollars ($300,000) to the District for the above described purpose; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the funds to be provided from the City of Evanston shall be from sources other than the property tax; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Evanston declares its intention to underwrite and sponsor the operation of the transit bus opera- tion for a period of at least five years.
