RESOLUTION 45-R-73 WHEREAS, it has become apparent that there is a need in the City of Evanston for an indoor ice arena; and WHEREAS, a special committee was appointed by the Mayor to consi- der the possibility of constructing such an arena; and WHEREAS, this committee has conducted extensive research and pre- pared a feasibility study regarding such an ice arena; and WHEREAS, this committee has made a site analysis of possible sites to locate such a facility; and WHEREAS, there also exists in the community a need to refurbish or rebuild a community center at Boltwood Park; and WHEREAS, a donor has offered to make available the sum of $1,000,000 towards the construction of a combined ice arena and community center at Boltwood Park: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Evanston that they officially go on record favoring the construction of a combined ice arena and community center at Boltwood Park; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is instructed to enter into contracts with architects for the preparation of plans and specifica- tions for the construction of such facilities; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council agrees to accept from a donor the sum of $1,000,000 to be applied towards this construction, sub- ject to the following conditions: 1. The 17-acre tract of land commonly known as "Boltwood Park" would-be renamed as a memorial to a son of the donor. The resulting name would be held by the City in perpetuity. 2. The present Eiden Fieldhouse would be razed upon completion of the new facility, and the Eiden name ' would be utilized by the City on another prominent park site in South Evanston. 3. The City will finance the balance of cost of the combined facility beyond the one million dollars ($1,000,000.00) by any method decided in the best interest of the City'and which will not result in an increase in taxes. 4. The donor agrees to withdraw all consideration in remodeling and renaming of Clark Square Park, and the grant of one million dollars ($1,000,000.00) shall be used in its entirety to construct and engineer the combined facility. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager and the staff shall take all necessary steps to facilitate the planning and construction of this facility. /s/ EdRar Vnnneman.
