HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1973-024-R-73,7 n C, 24-R- 73 RESOLUTION WHEMS, the subject of mini -bike usage in Evanston has been reviewed by the Evanston Youth Commission through public hearings, contacts with other cities, and the like; and WHEREAS, the Evanston Youth Commission has taken a position on the use of mini -bikes, to wit: the use of mini -bikes should be banned within the city limits of Evanston and the City Council should promote legislation by the State to make mandatory a printed statement advising the illegality of the use of the vehicle with the sale of each bike; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Evanston has reviewed the report of the Evanston Youth Commission in detail: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Evanston that it urges the General Assembly of Illinois to adopt legislation making it illegal to sell mini -bikes that cannot in fact be licensed for driving on the public ways; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in the alternative that the City Council urge the General Assembly of Illinois to adopt legislation requiring that a printed statement advising any prospective pur- chaser of the illegality of using this unlicensed vehicle be dis- played and provided with the sale of each such vehicle; and • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager be directed to transmit this resolution to the appropriate legislative officers of the General assembly of Illinois with a proposed draft of legislation for consideration by Senate and House Representatives, which draft shall be prepared by the Corporation Counsel of the City of Evanston. • ATTEST: _ /.5/ Mauri CAP P Rrnrm City Clerk 0 /s/ Edgar VannPman_ _Tr Mayor
