HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1974-072-R-74Revised 11-25-74 L. i • • 72-R-74 A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, eleven miles of the 177 miles of streets in the City of Evanston are unpaved; and WHEREAS, unpaved streets cannot be well maintained and are therefore the source of numerous complaints from all who use them, the sources of dirt, dust, and irritation for nearby residents, and detract from the appearance of neighborhoods by making it impossible for property owners to keep adjacent parkways planted with the grass and trees characteristic of Evanston; and WHEREAS,subject to the availability of Motor Fuel Tax funds and consid- erations of other priority for said funds, the City Council desires to promote and encourage the paving of unpaved streets; and WHEREAS, subject to the availability.of Motor Fuel Tax funds and consid- erations of other priorities for said funds, the City Council is willing to approve certain motor fuel tax contributions for the paving of unpaved streets; and WHEREAS, this use of motor fuel tax monies is deemed to be in the commun- ity's interest because it reduces street maintenance expenditures and improves and conserves residential neighborhoods and the tax base they represent; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Evan- ston, Illinois, hereby declares that in the Special Assessment paving of res- idential streets, it shall be in the City's policy to establish a maximum as- sessment cost of $50.00 per foot or two-thirds of the construction cost, whichever is less for direct assessment, and for indirect 25 per cent of the direct assessment to be applied to the front footage of properties in the as- sessment area, the front footage for corner lots being defined as the shortest side adjacent to either street; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the dollar level expressed herein shall be adjusted each year in accordance with the Engineering News Record Cost Index.
